Elemental-based powers are a staple in anime. And one such element to make such an impact is fire! It may be because of the destructive force that makes this a favorite among shows. It can also be shown that fire, when harnessed properly, can turn the tides in battle. Here’s a list of some popular characters to harness this excellent power:
Roy Mustang (FullMetal Alchemist)
First in this list is a popular State Alchemist, Roy Mustang. Dubbed as the Flame Alchemist, Mustang harnesses the power of flames with his special military gloves. These gloves are embroidered with transmutation circles, components needed to create fire.
Additionally, since the gloves are made out of unique ignition cloth, all Mustang needs to do is clap his hands or snap his fingers to create sparks for his flame. If anything, the only limitation this flame caster has is rain – water will nullify the gloves’ combustion effect!
Escanor (Seven Deadly Sins)
As the Lion Sin of Pride, Escanor of the Seven Deadly Sins may first seem to be an awkward and comedic entry among the strongest warriors of the land. But what makes this former prince a force is his Sunshine power. At his strongest (which would be at noon), his physical strength can level all sorts of foes. In a showcase of power, Escanor managed to channel his strength into a signal channel (removing the time limitation), literally transforming him into a living sun to beat the Demon King.
He may have died defeating probably the greatest foe in this show, but Escarnor proved his power over fire is something out of the ordinary!
Alibaba Saluja (Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic)
He may be overshadowed by some of the other characters in Magi, but Alibaba’s perseverance and will to overcome challenges makes him a strong contender as a fire-based user. Starting off as a swordsman, Alibaba soon gained the power of fire when he and Aladdin acquired the Fire Djinn. Used in conjunction with his swordsmanship (and additional training to boost his speed), Alibaba is truly a challenge to anyone unlucky to face him!
Sailor Mars (Sailor Moon)
Rei Hino is one of the very first Sailor Scouts to accompany Sailor Moon in her adventures. In conjunction with her powers, Sailor Mars also sports a fiery attitude. This strong personality of hers extends to her fights, where she can face even the toughest foes all by herself. A popular attack she uses is her Mars Flame Sniper, which transforms her flames to a bow and arrow to shoot down enemies!
As one of the protagonists of Fairy Tail, Natsu shows a great balance in his physical and magical skills. His fire powers are a force of its own in this universe, mainly owing this to being trained by an actual dragon itself! Natsu constantly creates and names new fire moves depending on the situation, showing his natural prowess as a strong fighter.
Additionally, his fire dragon slayer magic allows him to consume actual fire, to help replenish his energy reserves. If anything, his only weakness is that he can’t get onto any transportation without getting sick!
A fire demon from the Yokai world, Hiei has faced all sorts of hardships ever since he was born! Forced out of his village because of his traits, Hiei was forced to survive in the dangerous demon world. Being quick and smart in his actions (he is one of the fastest swordsmen in this universe), Hiei has also mastered the use of a special black flame granted from his third eye.
This dangerous attack, which can actually hurt him, can be channeled in all sorts of forms such as a sword, orbs, and the most famous of all, a black dragon!
A famous character from the 90’s, Recca Hanabishi’s obsession with ninjas paid off when he found out he actually came from a lineage of Japanese assassins! His innate ability to create fire (and he being brought up in a fireworks factory) allowed him to master all sorts of fire-based attacks.
Recca, as being part of the Hokage clan, allowed him to tap into the powers of the past Hokage leaders (8 in total). By summoning dragons (representations of the past leaders), he can use unique fire powers to help him out in battles. Best of all, Recca’s creativity allows him to combine summons, creating devastating attacks that can counter all sorts of enemies!
Another blast from the past, Lina Inverse is known to be a genius magician in the Slayers universe. What makes her such a threat is her mastery of black magic, which allows her access to several strong fire attacks in the series. Her spells, such as Giga Slave, Dragon Slave, and Ragna Blade, are tremendous planet-buster attacks that demons from all over fear. She may not look the part, but this mage may very well be the face of terror!
One of the most famous pirates from the long-running series, One Piece, Portgas D. Ace consumption of the Flare Flare devil fruit allowed him to create some of the most amazing fire attacks seen in both anime and manga versions!
His tenacity was supreme – he is one among the very best fighters in the One Piece universe who can use all forms of Haki. Additionally, his physical prowess and perseverance are further enhanced with training from the best warlords in the series, such as Garp and Whitebeard.
Additionally, his lineage says a lot – he is the son of Gol D. Roger, possibly the strongest pirate in the world! His death was one of the saddest events in the story – and the turning point for his brother, Luffy, to transform and journey in what may be towards his goal to be Pirate King!
